The films we selected with films were extremely relevant to the curriculum specifications, particularly for the exam as they got to see a French New Wave film. It’s good for them to go to the cinema and see things on the big screen, particularly because the students have to take into consideration the exhibition of film as part of their course. It’s a good chance for them to understand the differences between chain and independent cinema, and they were able to do this well as they attended a screening in each type of cinema.

We treat the Festival screenings and events as an extended listening activity to help improve their comprehension skills and as an opportunity to encourage pupils to continue their German studies at a higher level. The pupils have definitely developed a more positive impression of German culture, and the introduction really helped this. Since the cinema trip, two more pupils have told me they'd to do German at AS level.

Screening aided students already studying film but a free visit to a local independent cinema enhanced their learning experience. Exposure to European cinema is sometimes difficult for reluctant students and these screenings help stimulate discussion and debate for the whole group and encouraged further viewings.

It was an off timetable 'enrichment day' which enables us to take pupils on trips. Not only was it good for media studies in terms of analysing a film but also good for 'enrichment'.
